What you should know about Silivri

Silivri which is one of the Istanbul’s districts is preferred by vacationers. Previously known as the ancient town of ‘Selymbria’ or ‘Selybri’ the city has maintained its importance due to its location on the major trade routes and its location in a natural harbor. It is famous for the excellent yogurt it provides where the traditional yoghurt festival is organized every July. This festival is celebrated with famous singers, various competitions, traditional dance performance, and many entertainments. Furthermore, several people come to the traditional Silivri yoghurt festival from neighboring countries to present their own country traditional dances' show. Therefore, many cultures get together in this festival. If you happen to pass Silivri, you should definitely taste Silivri’s yoghurt. On the other hand, one of the places to be seen in Silivri is ‘Selymbria Castle’ (Silivri Castle). Silivri is a district that has witnessed the Byzantine period. Byzantine Emperor Arcadius (377-408) after the marriage with Eudoxia, built the Silivri Castle  to honor his wife and the city's name was changed as "Eudoxiapolis". However, after his death, Eudoxia was unused and forgotten. Unfortunately, after several earthquakes over the centuries, the castle was damaged and was not repaired. Today, it is used as a café and a restaurant. Locals and tourists prefer to go to the castle because it has an incredible breathtaking sea view. Thus, many people prefer luxury investment around there. Additionally, you should absolutely see Silivri’s coast. The coast is an enjoyable place with palm trees along the coast, pretty little cafés, curious seagulls, and naughty cormorants which wait for food from you.If you want to get away from grueling daily stress, you should come to Silivri and sip your tea in company with excellent sea view.
