Alanya

OVERVIEW

Alanya is the one of the most developed and preferred touristic provinces in the Mediterranean Region, 138 km east of Antalya. It is a peninsula surrounded by the Taurus Mountains in the north and the Mediterranean Sea in the south. Its population is more than 250.000 and has a warm Mediterranean climate. Alanya is one of the most beautiful towns, blending its beaches and nature with history and entertainment perfectly.  Cleopatra Beach is the most popular beach in Alanya center. Damlatas Beach in front of the Damlatas Cave is also one of the crowded beaches in summer. Dim Cave is one of the several caves around and it is the second biggest cave of Turkey Dim River and the Dim Valley are preferred for having a picnic in nature, swimming in the river and rafting.  Sapadere Canyon is another popular place for nature and trekking. There are numerous small waterfalls around and it is possible to see various kinds of plants and animals. There are a plenty of five star hotels, all-inclusive resorts as well as boutique hotels appealing to the different choices of the thousands of tourists visiting the area every year. Gazipasa Airport was opened in 2012 to meet the increasing demand for local transportation.

HISTORY AND CULTURE 

The town has a historical importance due to its strategic location as a port city.  Human fossils belonging to the Paleolithic age were discovered in the Karain Cave, which is 12 km away from the town. The oldest known name of the city is Roman Korakesion, which was converted to Kalanoros during the Byzantine Period. Alanya Castle was built during this era with several other fortresses to protect the city. In the 13th century the castle was taken over by the Seljukians and the city became the second capital of the empire with a new name of Alaia. The Ottomans captured it in the 16th century. Alanya Castle is located on the peninsula and it has 6 km long walls. Kizilkule (Red tower) is a beautiful example of the city fortresses built in the Seljuk Period. The historical shipyard, the armory and the harbor walls are the historical sites, which display its strategic importance. There are several mosques and churches belonging to the Byzantine and the Ottoman eras.  Andizli Emir Bedruddin Mosque and the Suleymaniye Mosque were built in the 13th century. Aya Yorgi (Hagios Georgios) Church, which is a product of the early settlements, has the characteristics of the Hellenistic, Byzantine and the Seljuk periods, as it was renovated by all of its owners.  Hagios Constantinous and the Mikail Archengelos Churches are also examples of the Byzantine era. Most of the historical sites are located in the Tophane district.

DISTRICTS AND TOWNS

Although a few decades ago, it was a humble town with local visitors, today Alanya is densely populated due to the thousands of local and foreigners visiting here every year. Many foreign visitors choose to make property investment in Alanya and 30% of the Alanya properties belong to the foreigners. Its popularity also draws in many contractors to invest in Alanya and build luxury properties. Konakli is one of the most preferred places for settlement and it is home to luxury Alanya villas and five-store buildings.  Tepe/Bektas is founded on the hills of the city very close to the center and has a beautiful view of the castle, mountains and the sea. Oba and Tosmur are other popular locations for real estate investment in Alanya and they are 49km away from the airport. Mahmutlar is one of the liveliest districts of the town and it is just 25 km away from the airport. Avsallar is the favorite district of the families as its Incekum beach is very suitable for safe swimming. Demirtas offers beautiful nature, fresh vegetables and fruits produced by locals and luxury homes to stay in the middle of nature. Kargicak is a five star resort district and is one of the top places for luxury investment.
